In 2001 I led a team from St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Seattle to build homes in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, for recovery from Hurricane Mitch. While there, our group visited Our Little Roses, and I've been a donor and supporter ever since.
Please join me and Our Little Roses in supporting real change. Our Little Roses is a non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to rescuing young girls in Honduras from situations of risk. In an effort to provide them with a safe space to be young girls, they have created the first and only all girls' home in San Pedro Sula, Honduras where little girls and young women can now escape abject poverty. Some have been abandoned by families too poor to provide for them. Some were even at risk of being trafficked into unspeakable situations.
Our Little Roses empowers these young girls through education and love in an atmosphere of unity, respect, and security to transform them into successful women. In a country where only 7% of the Honduran population has achieved a high school-level education, 75% of the girls of Our Little Roses have graduated high school and 13% have gone on to achieve Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate degrees. At the moment, Our Little Roses in Honduras is home to 60+ young girls ages 1 to 26 years old.
Through sponsorship, donations, and support, Our Little Roses motivates and assists these girls to rise up out of poverty. This is a walking fund-raiser for me, and I've committed to do minimum of 50 miles between now and September 4th, at $3 per mile to jump start my part. Just a small donation like $0.20 (or more!) per mile will go a long way to helping me meet my overall goal for this wonderful organization.
